Insurance Policy Overview

The Terms and Conditions (which explain the policy coverage) are located both on the back of the valued inventory and on the back of the original copy (shipper's copy) of the confirmation package. It is important to review this language because it provides the "rules and regulations" governing how a shipment would be insured and how the claims settlement process works.

Property covered:   Household goods and personal effects, antiques, fine arts, automobiles, boats, motorcycles, campers and trailers. Coverage applies on a door-to-door basis, including packing and unpacking.

Property Not Covered:   Monies and securities; also, jewelry and furs UNLESS declared and valued BUT subject to a limit of $5,000 for any one transit. Non-factory installed automobile accessories, UNLESS specifically valued and declared. Goods packed in an auto.

Scope of Coverage

Goods Packed by Mover:   Covered against loss or damage on an "All Risk" basis subject to the exclusions, terms and conditions outlined in the policy language. These are explained fully within the valued inventory and confirmation package policy language.

Goods Packed by Owner:   Coverage IS NOT available for breakage, scratching, denting, chipping, staining, and tearing unless directly caused by a fires, stranding, sinking or collision of the vessel or collision or overturn of a transporting land conveyance. In addition, coverage is EXCLUDED for missing items of owner packed cartons or packages UNLESS the owner, PRIOR to commencement of transit, supplies an itemized valued listing of the contents of each carton or package.

60 Days of Storage Coverage is included without additional charge. If an extension of coverage is required, the insured must pay an additional premium before the free 60-day period has elapsed.

Exclusions:   Electrical, electronic and mechanical derangement. Gradual deterioration, inherent vice, wear and tear, atmospheric/climatic conditions, or depreciation for inadequate/substandard repairs. Pairs and sets (for the undamaged items).

Limits of Liability

Shipment valuation is limited to $250,000 on any single shipment. Coverage is provided for automobiles, subject to the preparation of a damage inspection report at time of pickup. No coverage applies to loss or damage to an auto while being driven under its own power except while on the premises of the port or while being driven by an authorized driver who is an employee of the fowarder/claimer or their agent in direct furtherance of the transit.

Valuation

A complete valued inventory is required prior to shipment pickup. It is not necessary to use the PacGlobal Insurance Brokerage, Inc. form. Shippers can create their own computer or handwritten valued inventories. If a valued inventory is not provided, the shipment shall be valued at no less than $8.00 per pound times the net weight of the shipment.
Example: the minimum insured value of a 5,000 pound shipment: $40,000.

Administration

Achieving a smooth, seamless administrative process requires the collective efforts of PacGlobal Insurance Brokerage, Inc., the Interstate Van Line, and the local Van Line Agency. Once the Van Line has received a copy of the valued inventory, a Confirmation of Insurance will be created by the Van Line and forwarded to the shipper at destination. This documentation will serve as proof of coverage and will include information about how to properly file a claim.
